Brave New World producer Jenny King shares her glimpse into technical rehearsals which took place in September

Technical rehearsals are when sound, light, the movement of scenery and props  are worked out and rehearsed with the actors on stage. It is a big step for the actors to walk out of the rehearsal room onto the stage and to walk onto the real set for the first time.

But the pressure during technical rehearsals is largely on the director, the lighting designer, the video designer, the sound designer, the computer operators and programmers and the stage management.   As small sections of the play are repeated over and over again, the actors have time to become orientated to the new physical and technical demands of performing onstage with real props in different lighting states with different sound effects going on around them.

Enjoy this little glimpse of the process that in reality took place over three days.

Brave New World premieres at Royal and Derngate, Northampton, where it runs from 4 to 26 September 2015. It then tours to Edinburgh, Blackpool, Nottingham, Cheltenham, Wolverhampton, Darlington and Bradford where it concludes on 5 December.
