A promenade production to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Theatre Royal Nottingham is auditioning for a community cast!

In 2015 the Theatre Royal celebrates its 150th anniversary, having first opened its doors in September 1865. To mark this significant landmark for Nottingham there will be a number of events and projects taking place throughout 2015, including a revival of the very first production on the Theatre Royal stage, Sheridan’s classic comedy The School for Scandal.

Directed by David Longford, the Theatre Royal’s Creative Learning Manager, this new production will feature a cast of 30 community actors, playing such iconic characters as Lady Sneerwell and Sir Peter Teazle, as well as Walter Montgomery, the first director of the Theatre Royal from 1865.

This show will be unique ‘promenade’ production, using spaces both inside and outside the Theatre Royal, taking its audiences to places that they may never have visited before in this historic venue.  In other words, for its 150th birthday, the Theatre Royal will itself take centre-stage alongside its performers.

The Theatre Royal is looking for people aged 18+ to come along and take part in this production of The School for Scandal.  All applications are welcome and no experience is necessary.

"This will be a tremendously exciting show for all concerned", says David Longford, “not only will people be able to get directly involved in one of our centre-piece 150th anniversary shows, but also have the opportunity to work alongside some top-theatre-makers to create this very special and unusual show for the Theatre Royal.  It is a genuine opportunity for everyone and so whether you’ve done quite a bit of acting before or you’ve always wanted to have a go, but never got round to it – we really want to see you.”
