Meet Bradford's Young Reporters: Raza and Philippa

Meet Bradford's Young Reporters: Raza and Philippa

Tuesday, 31 March 2015

This week we're joined by Raza Khan and Philippa Williams. They'll be behind-the-scenes on A View from the Bridge at the Bradford Alhambra. But first, let's take a look at who they are and why they signed up to the scheme.

Following its beginnings last year, we're pleased to see the young reporter scheme back at the Bradford Alhambra for a second year. Reporting backstage at the theatre, Raza and Philippa will be writing features and interviewing members of the A View from the Bridge cast.

Raza is a returning recruit, having taken part in the scheme last year. Sadly his experience was cut short due to illness. But this year he's back and raring to go!

"Last year was just so much fun. I couldn't take part in the last two days of the project because of the flu striking me down and out, so this year I'm hoping to get the full experience from start to finish."
Raza on last year's experience

Describing himself as a 'literature geek' and citing Arthur Miller as one of his favourite playwrights, this will be Raza's first experience seeing this play. Raza wants to be a journalist and hopes the scheme will be useful in helping him build a portfolio of work as he progresses further towards university and his future career opportunities.

Raza is joined by 19-year-old Philippa Williams, who says participating in the scheme combines two key elements of her life.

"I have been at debut theatre school in Bradford for 15 years and have performed on the Alhambra stage with the Bradford Catholic Players. I am currently studying media at Leeds Trinity University with a view to becoming a journalist."
Philippa on joining the scheme

Philippa describes the scheme as the 'perfect opportunity', enabling her to gain experience in journalism, as well as the opportunity to write about something she has a strong interest in.

We're delighted to have Raza and Philippa with us! For updates and to show your support, please follow them on twitter @ReichenbachTrip and @philpotwil.

A View from the Bridge opened at Theatre Royal, Nottingham, where it ran from 4 to 7 March 2015. It then toured to Cheltenham, Darlington, Wolverhampton, Bradford, Coventry and Edinburgh, where it concluded on 2 May.
