Looking back at 2014
Wednesday, 31 December 2014
2014 has been a busy year for us at Theatre Cloud, working alongside two Touring Consortium Theatre Company productions, running successful digital project 'War Poetry for Today plus much more. We take a look back at the year's highlights...
Commemorating 30 years since the Miners' Strike of '93/94, the Touring Consortium Theatre Company co-produced this wonderfully sympathetic production with York, Theatre Royal.
Featuring brass bands local to each tour stop, Brassed Off won the hearts of audiences across the UK - hear what they had to say...
Miners Gala and This is Mine
The Touring Consortium Theatre Company were invited to take part in the annual Miners Gala in Yorkshire at the National Coal Mining Museum. Theatre Cloud are proud to house This is Mine, a short film incorporating all the various miners and their friends and families the producers met with along the way. So why not grab a cuppa and watch it here.
Pat Barker's Regeneration
The centenary of the First World War touched us all and the producers of Pat Barker's Regeneration certainly created a poignant commemoration. With five stars from the Guardian and lovely comments from audiences across the UK, Regeneration proved to be one of the most memorable events of the year.
The adaptation of Pat Barker's 'Regeneration' was heartbreaking for all the right reasons. A wonderful performance from all @WolvesGrand— Laura Blake (@LauraJBlake) November 7, 2014
War Poetry for Today
Our hugely successful poetry competition reached over 1200 submissions and one of biggest highlights was getting to meet the winner, Jasmine Heydari. Over a cup of tea (and a few biscuits) we got to find out more about Jasmine and her inspirations for her winning poem 'The First Time', which you can watch here.
All the Regeneration cast thoroughly enjoyed reading your poems and filming the shortlist along the tour. Well done to everyone who submitted and thank you for making this project such a success!
I know we shouldn't have favourites, but we really enjoyed working with Oliver Malam on his beautiful reading of Runner Up poem 'For Phil' by Rachael Pettus, watch it below:
Young Reporters Scheme
This year we launched our young reporters scheme which enabled 4 young people to take part in a week work experience alongside the Regeneration production company and report on all the activity surrounding the show as well as get some first-hand experience of interviewing the actors and crew.
We were also lucky enough to partner up with Darlington College and their journalism students who all got to report on the show during it's week at the Civic theatre.
Take a look at some of the great work they submitted to us here. We have loved working with these talented folk and wish them all the best in the future!
Phew! It's been a busy year and we have had a blast. Now it's time to put our feet up, have a few mince pies and get ready for an exciting 2015! Check out our new My View from the Bridge digital competition and get submitting!
Regeneration premiered on 2 September 2014 (previews from 29 August) at Royal & Derngate, Northampton, where it continues until 20 September 2014. It then tours to York, Edinburgh, Bradford, Nottingham, Cheltenham, Richmond, Wolverhampton, Darlington and Blackpool where it concludes on 29 November.
