Darlington: Abigail's Touring Adventures

20 November 2015

From a visit to the Bowes Museum to sneak peeks backstage on Brave New World, check out Abigail's latest photo diary from when the show toured to the Darlington Civic Theatre last week.

Brave New World cast member Abigail McKern is letting us on in her journey while on tour. Abigail is a keen photographer and she kindly agreed to share her experience of life on the road during the duration of the tour! We love seeing receiving her photos each week, it's great to see what's happening on tour, as well as put the spotlight on some of the town and cities TCTC tours to.

If you've missed the journey so far, go back catch up on Abigail's previous photo diary

Last week, Brave New World toured to the Civic Theatre in Darlington.

This week my favourite experience was jumping on a bus in the pouring rain, bumping through the countryside for an hour and visiting delightful Barnard Castle and the FABULOUS Bowes Museum built a couple of hundred years ago by an actress and her husband! Apart from stunning Art works the famous centrepiece is a 240 year old silver mechanical swan which catches and eats a fish when its wound up! It would have   utterly amazed people at the time.

I have included some more backstage shots this week and also a visit to Darlington's wonderful indoor Victorian market. People are so friendly here - we were given another splendid after show party by the Friends Of The Theatre. We were also donated a HUGE basket of fruit from one of the stall holders in the market who is passionate about theatre. I found out his name - Robin Blair, tracked him down and we had a photo taken together - what a lovely man!

Another interesting bit of research was for my friend, actress, Carolyn Backhouse. Her great, great Grandfather built the bank in Darlington (now taken over by Barclays) but there is still a plaque on the wall and when I went to the local history section of the Library, I found actual banknotes and cheque books with her Grandfather's name on them!
