Award-winning Simon Godwin announced as director for Regeneration

Tuesday, 20 May 2014

Evening Standard award winner Simon Godwin is announced as the director for Touring Consortium Theatre Company next production, the adaptation of Pat Barker's Booker-nominated novel Regeneration

Producer Matthew Gale gave a little triumphant punch in the air as he received the call to say that ‘yes, Mr. Godwin would be thrilled to direct your next production’. It’s another feather in the cap for this eagerly awaited adaptation of Pat Barker’s critically acclaimed novel set in Edinburgh mental hospital, Craiglockhart, during the First World War.

Simon Godwin will be making a return visit to Northampton Royal and Derngate, (where he was associate director in 2001), to direct the third production in a series of five dramas produced by the Touring Consortium Theatre Company, funded by the Arts Council, England.

Simon’s directing career has seen him rise from assisting Dominic Dromgoole, to directing Nick Payne’s Wanderlust and Lucy Kirkwood’s NSFW amongst others at the Royal Court Upstairs and then on to directing Anne-Marie Duff in Strange Interlude at the National Theatre.

In 2012, Mr. Godwin won the newly created Burberry award for an emerging theatre director at the Evening Standard Awards. Simon is also making his debut with the RSC with Two Gentlemen of Verona.

And if that isn’t enough to tickle your tastebuds…

Ralph Fiennes will return to the National as John Tanner in Bernard Shaw's Man and Superman, directed by Simon Godwin in the Lyttleton, opening in February 2015, we’ll certainly get booking our tickets!

Everyone at the Touring Consortium Theatre Company is very excited to welcome Simon on board and we look forward to announcing casting in the near future, watch this space…

Regeneration premiered on 2 September 2014 (previews from 29 August) at Royal & Derngate, Northampton, where it continues until 20 September 2014. It then tours to York, Edinburgh, Bradford, Nottingham, Cheltenham, Richmond, Wolverhampton, Darlington and Blackpool where it concludes on 29 November.
