"I was really lonely and miserable and thought I'd better do something creative" Brave New World adapter Dawn talks getting into writing

Dawn King is an award-winning writer who works in theatre, radio, TV and film. She's currently adapting Aldous Huxley's Brave New World for the stage. She's also found time to give us her support in our latest creative project: Can you pen a Brave New Ending?, helping us structure it and offering her tips to those thinking of putting pen to paper.

If you are, but you don't have much experience, please don't shy away! In this video, Dawn explains how she wasn't trying to become a writer and didn't get into writing through prose or short stories. Dawn took a day workshop at Soho Theatre and was then asked to join their Young Writers Programme.

Brave New World premieres at Royal and Derngate, Northampton, where it runs from 4 to 26 September 2015. It then tours to Edinburgh, Blackpool, Nottingham, Cheltenham, Wolverhampton, Darlington and Bradford where it concludes on 5 December.
